| You Are 40% Weird |
![]() Normal enough to know that you're weird... But too damn weird to do anything about it! |
I'm going to a new job at a real estate office in town. This is as of a week or so ago, and I will be done as of this Friday (Sept 9th, 2005). There will apparently be a party for me that afternoon. I was recently given a review by "TheSponge" as my new boss is aptly named. It was a bad review stating that I was "just doing enough to get my job done" and that "some of the larger projects that he does not have time to do may be becoming my responsibility". What I get PAID TO DO here is to be an Admin Assistant/Membership Liaison, meaning I do admin stuffs and keep the 500 members happy and if I have time make it grow (tbh, they don't pay me enough for all of that either). What I ACTUALLY DO here is that job, plus parts of the Office Manager's job and what ever else the Executive Director can't handle or asks me to undertake. This is why I was working weekends and 12-14 hour days for the longest time after we lost the Office Manager and never re-hired the position. What he means by "just doing enough to get my job done" is that I was no longer putting forth the effort that I did before by working the weekends and evenings, and I am doing only what my title implies. I take care of the members and keep the basics of the office running. When I read this review I knew it was time for me to get the hell out of Dodge >_<.
I hadn't put out my resume's and I had three job offers as soon as the business community caught wind that I was leaving the Chamber. That made me very happy.
As I was getting my feelers out and seeing what job I wanted, I found out that TheSponge was advertising for an "Administrative" position. I found out by having young ladies hand me their resumes >_<. When he set up an interview, he looked nervouse and seemed to not want to tell me what the "meeting after hours" was, and wanted to ensure that I was not around while it happened. I found out by reading his computer screen while he was looking for papers that he had hired a young lady and that she would be starting soon. If you were in my shoes, what would you think...yup, I was given the distinct impression that I was being replaced. I wasn't worried, as by this time I'd had a great interview and was just waiting to hear back from them about when to start, but it was still made me feel as though all the work I had done for that office had gone to waste and not being recognized at all. It's unfortunate when you put a lot into a place, and don't even get the common courtousy to have your boss inform you about what is going on in regards to your job, or even when your lunch hour will be for that matter. Oh well, I could go on and on about the idiotic things he's done in his short term here, and how he will be the downfall of the Chamber if he is let do what he likes, but I won't.
On an interesting side note, he asked me if I would be interested in asking my new employer if I could be their representative on a Committee for the Chamber. I am going to think on this one a bit, as it is the Trade Show Committee that is in question and I'd liek to be a part of that project. The only thing that would stop me is the only reason I think he asked is to get me to work the Trade Show at no cost. We'll have to see where that one goes.
Anyways, it's now about time to leave teh Chamber, find food and go to my other work to train for 3 hours. 14 hour days once again, but this time it's really worth it. So far I'm catching on quite fast as to how my new job works, and it will only be a matter of prectice to get really good at it. Wish me luck :)
Here is your mention. You know who you are. You're a great friend, temper and all. Thanks for pushing me to get the hell out of this place. I think I needed the kick in the ass ;)
